L’Università IULM organizza la seconda edizione di GAME LOCALIZATION, una conferenza annuale dedicata all’adattamento, doppiaggio e traduzione dei videogiochi, un mercato dominato - a livello mondiale - da aziende italiane.
MILANO - Venerdì 26 ottobre dalle ore 10.00 presso la Sala dei 146 dell'Università IULM di Milano si terrà la seconda edizione di GAME LOCALIZATION, un incontro a cui parteciperanno i relatori delle più importanti società del settore: Elena Cesana (Keywords Studios), Alessandra Neve (Jinglebell), Marco Locatelli (Binari Sonori) e Daniele Pastina (Synthesis). Moderato da Matteo Bittanti, l’evento è presentato dal Master of Arts in Game Design della IULM.
L’espressione game localization indica il processo di traduzione dei contenuti audio, video e testuali di un videogioco in differenti lingue nonché la sua complessa ricontestualizzazione culturale, espressiva ed artistica. Mercato in costante crescita da oltre un decennio, la game localization ha trovato a Milano uno dei suoi poli internazionali. Per fare il punto della situazione su un comparto dell’industria videoludica talvolta sottovalutata dai mass media, l’università IULM organizza una tavola rotonda aperta al pubblico e agli studenti della IULM, in particolare ai frequentanti della Facoltà di Interpretariato, Traduzione e Studi Linguistici e Culturali, del Master in Doppiaggio, Adattamento e Traduzione di Opere Cinetelevisive, agli operatori del settore, alla stampa specializzata e agli appassionati.
Uno degli obiettivi dell’incontro è illustrare i possibili percorsi formativi del localizzatore di videogiochi, discutendo, nello specifico:
L’evoluzione del mercato della game localization nell’ultima decade.
Presentazione delle aziende leader a livello nazionale e internazionale nonché delle possibili carriere.
Struttura, ruoli e funzioni di un team di localizzazione;
Iter di un progetto tipico di game localization, dal contatto con lo sviluppatore/publisher fino alla consegna del lavoro;
Gli ostacoli che s’incontrano nel processo di localizzazione di un videogioco;
Requisiti fondamentali nella ricerca di traduttori e revisori nelle società di localizzazione.

Elena Cesana
In qualità di Regional HR Manager – Southern Europe di Keywords Studios, Elena gestisce il personale degli uffici di Milano, Roma, Barcellona, Madrid e Parigi della più grande società di game localization al mondo.
Marco Locatelli
Linguista e responsabile formazione di Binari Sonori, società del gruppo Keywords Studios con sede a Milano, Marco è da sempre appassionato di game localization, come dimostra la sua tesi di laurea sulla localizzazione di World of Warcraft.
Daniele Pastina
Con un’esperienza quasi decennale nel settore, Daniele è Localization Project Manager in Synthesis, società del gruppo Keywords Studios responsabile della localizzazione di recenti successi videoludici come Overwatch e Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Alessandra Neve
Senior Localization Manager di Jinglebell, società specializzata in produzioni audio e localizzazioni per il settore videoludico. Dal 2001 a oggi Alessandra ha curato la localizzazione di decine di titoli per i principali publisher del mondo, da Activision a EA, da Warner Bros. Games a Square Enix.

IULM University is hosting the second edition of GAME LOCALIZATION, an annual conference focusing on the adaptation, dubbing and translation of video games, a market dominated - worldwide - by Italian companies.
MILAN - On Friday 26th October, from 10.00 a.m. until 12.00, the second edition of GAME LOCALIZATION will be held in the Sala dei 146 of IULM University. During the conference, speakers from some of the most important localization companies in the world will share their precious insights: Elena Cesana (Keywords Studios), Alessandra Neve (Jinglebell), Marco Locatelli (Binari Sonori), and Daniele Pastina (Synthesis). Moderated by Matteo Bittanti, this event is presented by the Master of Arts in Game Design.
The expression game localization denotes the process of translating the audio, video and textual contents of a video game into different languages as well as its complex cultural, expressive and artistic contextualization. A growing market for over a decade, game localization has found one of its international hubs in Milan. To assess a sector of the video game industry sometimes overlooked by the mass media, IULM University is organizing a round table open to the public and students of IULM, especially students of the Faculty of Interpretation Translation and Linguistic and Cultural Studies, students of the Master's Degree in Dubbing, Adaptation and Translation of Audiovisual Works, professionals, the press and anyone interested in the production of video games, from triple AAA titles to indie.
One of the objectives of the meeting is to illustrate the possible career paths. Among the topics addressed are:
The evolution of the game localization market in the last decade.
Presentation of the leading national and international companies as well as possible careers.
Structure, roles and functions of a localization team;
Description of a typical game localization project, from the contact with the developer/publisher to the delivery of the work;
Challenges faced in the process of localizing a video game;
Key requirements in the recruiting process of translators and proofreaders for the localization companies.

Elena Cesana
As Regional HR Manager - Southern Europe of Keywords Studios, Elena manages the staff of the Milan, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid and Paris offices of the largest game localization company in the world.
Marco Locatelli
Linguist and training manager of Binari Sonori, a Keywords Studios company based in Milan, Marco has always been passionate about game localization, as his Master’s thesis on the localization process of World of Warcraft clearly demonstrates.
Daniele Pastina
With almost ten years of experience in the field, Daniele is Localization Project Manager at Synthesis, a Keywords Studios group company responsible for localizing recent gaming successes such as Overwatch and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Alessandra Neve
Senior Localization Manager of Jinglebell, a company specializing in audio productions and localizations for the gaming industry, Alessandra has localized dozens of titles for major publishers around the world, from Activision to EA, from Warner Bros. Games to Square Enix.

NEWS: PIETRO RIGHI RIVA WINS BIG AT INDIECADE 2018

Pietro Righi Riva’s latest game, Asta Grande, won the Innovation in Experience Design Award at Indiecade 2018.
The Innovation in Experience Design honors the craft or design of the game that provides a unique, curated experience. This year, the award was given to Asta Grande, a drop-in, drop-out crowd game for thirty people, described as
A pretend auction of legendary items mediated by a digital interface that is used by the auctioneer to present the lots and keep track of players’ objectives and funds. Players receive a character card that doubles as their bidding paddle, and they raise it when they are interested in an item being auctioned.
This game was originally commissioned by the NYU Game Center for the 2017 No Quarter exhibition.
The IndieCade Festival is the premiere international event dedicated to celebrating independent games from around the globe. Now in its second decade, IndieCade is held each October in the Los Angeles area and this important, fun-filled event draws industry and public from around the world.
IndieCade Festival 2018, October 12th - 13th offered a unique opportunity to play and preview the latest innovative indie games of all types and from around the world. Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to play new and innovative games and meet with their creators, as well as sessions, workshops, business networking, social activities, tournaments, entertainment and more. IndieCade kicks off with an in-depth game developer summit with creators of new titles, as well as legends from across the industry.
Pietro Righi Riva teaches GAME PRODUCTION in the M.A. in Game Design at IULM University. He is co-founder and studio director at Santa Ragione where he worked on multiple award-winning independent games, such as MirrorMoon EP, FOTONICA, and Wheels of Aurelia. Righi Riva received his Ph.D in Interaction Design from Politecnico di Milano. Pietro has been a lecturer at Politecnico di Milano, California College of Arts, Shanghai Theater Academy, Tsinghua University among others. He lectured at several international conferences and festival including the Game Developers Conference, Fantastic Arcade, and many more. Righi Riva’s design philosophy is aimed at developing games that are not objective-driven, and adopts the concept of playful technology to integrate expressive technical limitations in his designs. His work was displayed at the Venice Biennale and the MCA in Chicago. In 2016, Pietro published a manifesto for nontraditional playable media called “rejecta”. He lives and works in Milan.

GAME SHOW: Our excellent graduates will present their projects on October 12, 2018. The event is free and open to the public.
