SIAMO LIETI DI ANNUNCIARE CHE SIMONE BENZI E ALESSANDRO CHIOVOLONI (CLASSE 2020) HANNO RICEVUTO UN PREMIO ALLO STUDIO OFFERTO DALL’UNIVERSITÀ IULM PER LA LORO PERFORMANCE DURANTE IL MASTER OF ARTS IN GAME DESIGN 2019-2020

Simone Benzi ha conseguito una Laurea in Lettere e Beni Culturali presso il DAMS di Bologna con una tesi intitolata “I racconti interattivi: l’evoluzione della modalità narrativa nel medium videoludico”. Curatore, deejay e visual artist, Simone studia il potenziale narrativo dei videogiochi. La sua prima esperienza con il medium interattivo risale al 1993 con Sonic The Hedgehog su Sega Genesis. Successivamente, si è interessato alla disciplina accademica emergente dei game studies.

Alessandro Chiovoloni è nato e cresciuto a Perugia. Ha ricevuto una Laurea in Disegno Industriale presso l’Università di Firenze nel 2019 e in precedenza, ha studiato interior design presso il Nuovo Istituto di Design di Perugia. Appassionato di graphic design, videogiochi e comunicazione, Alessandro adora il disegno e lo storytelling. Il suo sogno è fondare il proprio studio di sviluppo indie.

Durante l’edizione 2019-2020 del Master of Arts in Game Design, Simone e Alessandro hanno collaborato allo sviluppo di Capra! Simulator è una visual novel arricchita da una forte componente manageriale in cui il giocatore è chiamato a condurre Punto in Bianco, un travagliato talk show in crisi di ascolti. Il produttore/conduttore deve selezionare gli ospiti più azzeccati per gli ultimi tre episodi della stagione. Tutto è lecito per conquistare l’audience: contenuti trasgressivi, temi controversi, commenti sguaiati. Ogni scelta avrà conseguenze dirette, quindi occhio a non sbagliare! E non dimenticate di moderare la discussione: non c’è niente che gli spettatori italiani amano di più di una “conversazione” di pessimo gusto tra “celebrità” che si azzuffano in diretta!

Insieme a Giulia Levada, Simone e Alessandro si sono aggiudicati il Merit Award 2020 (Premio allo studio 2020) - del valore di 3.000 euro per studente - grazie alla loro performance durante il Master, culminata con lo sviluppo di Capra! Simulator. L’importo totale dei Merita Awards che l’Università IULM ha erogato quest’anno agli studenti del Master ammonta a 9,000 euro.

Originally from Forlì, Simone Benzi received his B.A in Literature and Cultural Heritage from D.A.M.S. University in Bologna with a thesis titled “Interactive tales. The evolution of storytelling in digital games”. Curator, deejay, and visual artist, Simone is especially interested in the narrative potential of video games. He discovered gaming at the age of five, with Sonic The Hedgehog on a Sega Genesis, and later became interested in the emergent academic discipline of game studies.

Born and raised in Perugia, Alessandro received his B.A. in Industrial Design from the University of Florence in 2019. He also studied Interior Design at the New Institute of Design in Perugia. With a passion for graphic design, gaming, and communication, Alessandro loves drawing and writing short stories. His dream is to create his own indie studio.

Capra! Simulator is a visual novel with a strong managerial component which casts the player in the double role of a TV producer and host. The mission? To save a troubled talk show titled Punto in bianco (Point blank). The producer must select the most exuberant guests for the last three episodes of the season, and give them carte blanche. In order to get the highest ratings, anything goes, including the thrashiest content, the most controversial talking points, and the raunchiest comments. Each choice you make will have direct consequences, so choose wisely! And don’t forget to moderate the “discussion”: Italian viewers loved heated exchanges!
